My name is Mayya Chernaya, the owner and creator of Black Candle - one of the very best candle workshops. 

I am 34 years old and magic has always been a central part of my life. Since childhood I was fascinated by mysticism and loved everything related to witchcraft. Candles and fire magic are a passion that were ignited 10 years ago.

As a teenager I began to study magic and occultism in more detail. Apart from learning about magic and witchcraft I also completed two formal educations. In England I majored in cultural studies and sociology. Later I graduated with honours from the Institute of Contemporary Art Moscow with a degree in journalism. Education at these universities gave me a clear and in-depth knowledge of religious studies, philosophy, semiotics, morphology, etymology, ancient and modern culture.

For several years I travelled all around the world: I visited many countries, lived in Scotland, Switzerland and Egypt. When I turned 25, I began to study occult knowledge full time. My mentors enabled me to apply my already existing magic theoretical knowledge in modern everyday life and taught me how to infuse candles with magical practices and technologies hidden from the eyes of the world.

I started to create my first candles for easy rituals of purification and protection of myself 7 years ago in my kitchen.

Beeswax was my material of choice right from the start because it’s a living material with a huge energy return, it reliably absorbs and preserves the energy program. It is a great pleasure to work with such an inspiringly warm material, to put herbs, aromatic oils and specially selected components in it. This fascinated me so much that I started casting multi-component candles and inserting a program into them, which is revealed in rituals through the flames.

After a while I realized that I like to share my creations, to bring their joy and strength to others. Many of those who used my candles, over time, became close people with a similar worldview.

My business grew stronger with each passing year. Now me and my team, consisting of students and like-minded people, have become one of the best-known and skilful candle masters. In the future I will share my knowledge with others to pass on what I have learned in all these years. My tuition will be available through online and personal lessons in different countries.
